Personally I really love this movie the songs are wonderful the animation is great and this movie perfectly encapsulate what the show is and in my humble opinion the show is that full of optimism plus caring and talking about emotions and empathy. I’ll forever praise the show for that and making pacifism an actual option in change your mind.
How I choose to see this show and the movie is something like an alternate reality where you can actually talk people down from doing awful things and they actually change. Which brings some interesting not problems but concerns to be honest I wish we got to see more from the diamonds being redeemed yeah they are trying to change but there still an uncomfortable feeling I get from them like it’s weird that they change thousands and thousands of years of colonizing planets and shattering gems in like 2 years I would feel more ok with this if they show them learning from Steven but I get this uncomfortable feeling they’re only going along with this because Steven reminds them of Pink they literally sang that and their not changing on their own again might be over thinking it I know their trying to change but they still feel off.
I honestly didn’t expect the movie we got I was expecting to see how Steven and the diamonds dismantle the oppressive system and a few gems not being ok with the change.
Not saying what we got wasn’t good I love Spinel and her story but to me I feel like her story wrapped up to cleanly for the sort of moral of the story where there’s no real happy ever after and there still work to be done like her living with the diamonds is like her best possible outcome I feel came too soon. I feel after what happen and she tells Steven that she needs to learn how to be a good friend she should have gone out to space and try to make friends then come season 6 she comes back to see Steven more together and meet up with the diamonds or while she’s in space she meets the diamonds and hangs out with them and Steven learns that she’s been with the diamonds I don’t know I feel like if Spinel took more time to get herself together I would feel more better about her redemption she did a horrible thing yes Steven fixed it but still to me it’s kinda too soon for her to be with the diamonds.
Even then maybe it’s me the fact the diamonds called Spinel as one of Pink’s lost treasures they still kinda refer to her as an object which means they still kinda have that mindset which makes sense why Pink treat her the way she did they gave Spinel to Pink as a toy until she got her colony she didn’t need Spinel toy anymore not excusing her actions but it makes sense that Pink did that because the other diamonds did that they treated most of their gems like objects I argue they treated Pink like that too at some point.
The fact they call Spinel Pink’s treasures rubs me the wrong way which to me says that if there was time in between Spinel living with the diamonds I feel better about her being redeem.
Other things about the movie Music I have every song on repeat I love it, Steg is bae and Spinel animation wise was glorious I really love and enjoy this movie and can’t wait for more Steven

Hi there. I recently discovered this place and see it has good stuff. About me, a retired (Florida) senior software quality assurance engineer born in the middle of WWII, raised on Science Fiction and became an anime fan in the early 90s. I enjoy talking. My current interests include MLB, MLP, TTG, Code Lyoko, and SU.

Spinel is very much like the animated characters I watched on TV in the early 50s. It was very intentional of the show to do her this way, and they did an excellent job. I am a big fan of Peridot; she is the best-animated character ever, anywhere. I think Spinel is a very close second.

I will follow your site, and I hope you will consider doing some anime stuff. I can offer some suggestions.

Hey Bill, thanks for checking us out! Love your Spinel thoughts. We’re current doing regular Fruits Basket coverage, we did Promised Neverland weekly earlier this year and will hopefully continue to do sporadic anime stuff in the future. Suggestions always welcome!
