Total Drama Review Week 21: Haute Camp-Ture

By: Justin Cummings

As a disclaimer, if you’re watching the American release, this episode is also known as “After the Dock of Shame.” Honestly I don’t know how to feel about this episode. On one hand, it’s a nice change of pace from the rest of the season, but on the other, it drags, a lot. The entire episode feels extra, like it should have been a web exclusive, and certainly not have an elimination. It’s not awful, it just feels like it wasn’t planned. It’s as if the creators couldn’t come up with a way to vote off Leshawna, so they contrived this situation. In their defense though, it’s hard to see Leshawna being voted out any other way. She played a great game, and everybody liked her apart from Heather. She will be missed, but the quickness of her elimination didn’t really do her justice, and her expression echoed mine.

As far as the interviews with the eliminated campers go, they were fine. This established the group of Noah, Katie, Sadie, Trent, and Izzy, that I love to see interact. they were probably the highlight of the episode, along with Lindsey. She exemplified diva here, and her lines were just hilarious. Making out with Tyler, and then asking where Tyler was, remains one of my favorite Lindsey moments. Honestly there isn’t much to say about this episode at all, because it’s just forgettable.

I can only give this episode a 4/10, but it’s still worth watching. Gwen, Heather, Owen, and Duncan: the final four. One of them will somehow win $100,000. No one would have expected this, and the home stretch will be just as unpredictable. I’ll see you all next week for “Camp Castaways.”

I'm currently studying Communication at Lynchburg College with an emphasis in Electronic Media and a double minor in business and gender studies. I've been a huge fan of animation since I was little and thus have very eclectic tastes. Outside of animation I love Survivor, comic books, and a whole treasure trove of other things.
