I love what they’re doing with Qrow. Up to this season, the team has been following Ozpin. With Ozpin MIA, it would logically make sense for them to begin deferring to Qrow, supposedly the other adult in the room. But now Qrow’s drinking is making him unreliable. The team is being forced to grow up quickly and begin making their own decisions.

We see this in full bloom at the well. As they try to decide what to do next, go to Atlas or dump the relic, it’s a hard choice. In the past, they would have listened to Qrow, but now they have their own agency. It gives them an opportunity to grow. I thought Qrow was going to have to die for this to happen, so having him passed out after a bender is much better.

One other small detail is that Grimm are attracted to the relic, so I don’t think hiding it is an option. This should have been said explicitly, however.

Thanks so much for another great show.
