XCII & XCIII (Samurai Jack) – Overly Animated Podcast #339

By: Justin Cummings

Justin Cummings and Michelle Anderer discuss the first two episodes of the new season of Samurai Jack, “XCII” and “XCIII”.

I'm currently studying Communication at Lynchburg College with an emphasis in Electronic Media and a double minor in business and gender studies. I've been a huge fan of animation since I was little and thus have very eclectic tastes. Outside of animation I love Survivor, comic books, and a whole treasure trove of other things.

I enjoyed the podcast, you should really go back and watch the very best episodes of seasons 1 thru 4 to get your bearings for season 5. I recommend
    I
    II
    III
    XVIII
    XI
    X
    XXXVI
    IX
    XXIX
    XXXII
    XL
    XLI
    XLIV

You also commented on the scene is season 5 episode 2 where they are in the tomb with all of the caskets, and the cool music that is playing.

Genndy has said The Good The Bad and the Ugly is a huge influence on Jack. This scene and music are taken directly from that movie. Gave me goosebumps.

  2. John aka Resender aka Johnny Bravo says:

Ok great to see Samurai Jack again.
    Great finally a conclusion.

Now Jack will return to the past, this was prophetised in the episode
    “Jack and the Traveling Creatures”

Now I was severly underwhelmed by Aku, I know the original VA died since then, but I felt that both the dialog & interactions with psychiatrist-Aku were off.

  3. Alex says:

I’ve also not watched Samurai Jack in its original run, but I’m all in after watching these two episodes. I do wonder how long they’ll milk the suicidal aspect of his mental state for. That Tom Kenny character came out of nowhere and was awesome

  4. Steve Zec says:

Well I thought these two episodes were excellent. I think a Jack dying in the finale is possible.

Speaking of Sym Bionic Titan, anyone think the daughter of Aku that did get the spotlight in episode 1 who by the way will be the only one of them to survive the series, looked like a dark haired Ilanna, I am certain I am not the only one that noticed.

If they did bring back up SBT, I don’t care what happens as long as Octus and Kimmy get back together.

    • Phoenician says:

Wasn’t Kimmy the mean girl? I bet Dylan would love her! Sym-Bionic Titian is really a great show for those who haven’t seen it. Great voice acting, good writing, good animation, it’s the whole package.

      • Steve Zec says:

Yeah but for one episode, the rest of the series she is Octus love interest and actually becomes a better person for it.
