RIP Shiro. I also think he’s part of the black lion now. That’s my running theory. So he’ll be a presence but not alive anymore. And like you I’m mostly operating on the fact that his body is gone, but there’s no way they’ll kill Shiro with the way it was set up. Like you said narratively they didn’t do the tells for a big death. But something had to have happened so maybe when they were going all out he mega-bonded with his lion through some quintessence magic stuff and will still be able to communicate with the team when voltron forms/communicate with the black lion pilot.
I agree with Justin that Allura will be in a lion next season and it’ll be the black lion. I think that Keith will attempt to do what Shiro told him and pilot the black lion but he won’t emotionally be in the right place and that there might be some resistance from maybe the other paladins (maybe Lance might continue calling him a hothead and not fit to lead and might push for Allura) about his leadership abilities as well as resistance from the Red Lion itself to take a new pilot. So they all agree that Allura is better suited and will have to heed the call and lead Voltron. I think the red lion is an important thing to factor in that you all mentioned, there’s been a HUGE arc this season with Keith and his Red Lion having a bond, maybe the strongest one besides Shiro and black. And it’s a stubborn lion, it’s not going to accept a new pilot I think when Keith is still around. So it’s not that they set in stone that Keith will actually pilot the black, it’s that they’ve set up these disparate elements so that we have a big character conflict in the beginning of season 3. Shiros wishes vs. Keiths abilities vs the Lions themselves vs the other paladins. I think it’s perfectly set up. And because they think they took out Zarkon, they’ll be less of a problem of ‘we have no time to argue!! The evil empire is right on our tails!’ because there’s no directly imminent threat.

Anyone did some research, in the original series, Hagaar is not Prince Lotter’s mother, but they are still related, but Hagaar is not Attean in the original, but Lotter’s mom is Attean. Take that as you will. They might be combining characters here from the original.

Yes Prince Lotter is not going to be easy to like, I remember him being such an irritating character.
