I like the fact that Blake remained quiet when her father asked her too, instead of reacting in a teenage angst willful manner. It shows her as being more mature than the other members of team RWBY.

    • Dylan Hysen says:

I guess I see that, but I probably don’t see obedience purely as a mark of maturity. Like Weiss wouldn’t have spoken up to her father but you could argue that’s because she’s too “immature” (not really the right word but yeah) to stand up for herself in that spot.

      • MrBabynova says:

It’s definitely contextual. In her place I think going against her father in a political situation, rather than a personal one, would have been too unlike her. Idk, I think it’s a nice change of pace that she didn’t act up against her father. I’ve seen it time and time again where directors think making a strong female character is by making her extremely willful, foregoing logic or common sense, just to do the opposite of what a man tells her, because it is a man telling her. It’s a trend that’s mostly been phased out in the TV world but the movie world can still be held party to this trope (is it trope? I’m not sure if it is). I think if it was Yang or Weiss, they would have spoken out at having been silenced (Weiss here by Blakes dad rather than her own) regardless of the consequences (if there are anyway, there were like two seasons where the RWBY girls just did whatever without any punishment or reprimand) but Blake here shows tact and understanding of her position. Though I think if she was in that position with Weiss’s dad she would have reacted differently. Again, it’s all contextual, but in this context, I think Blake was right, I mean, I would have been pissed if they did a whole ‘Attacking a messenger leads to island-wide antagonism’ bit, which I actually expected was going to happen to give Blake a reason to leave Managerie or to go back on the WF hunt.

Speculation – White Fang coup in Menagerie, family on the run (hence desert reference) – off to Mistral

We’ll be lucky to see a RWBY reunion of any pair before the end of the season.

I think they’re serious about their 13 seasons and the pace is related to that.

I hope they integrate the character short, not show it again, but pick up after it. Somehow it is a tactic to get Ruby by herself.

I didn’t think Blake was robotic, it was understandable that she was anxious as she clearly stayed in the WF when her parents left. Also her ears spent the whole episode emoting! She wins on the character remodel just for freeing them. I like new Ruby best of the rest, she’s a little Octoberfest, but I like how she has become more solid and less waif.

Looking forward to a long episode next week!

    • Dylan Hysen says:

Yeah Blake’s ears were great this episode, I forgot to mention that. lol sigh 13 seasons.. And yeah I’d guess the desert comes into play given its blatant mention in the exposition.

  3. Steve says:

Well what stood out to me is Blake’s mom is Tara Prat. Nice to have her aboard.

I am thinking a reunion that is volume finale material. That is just my opinion.

I am with you, I don’t want all of White Fang to be evil.

And yes Sun is an idiot.
