Not much Starco? The first episode was Starco strong, them babysitting, that is hints of what they would be like as parents. It is so obvious, though to be truthful, I could find anything on this show to be on this Starco.
To be clarify I am all about the Starco, I don’t get where you all got the idea I wasn’t, I love Janna as a character but I don’t ship her with Marco, if anything Janna should be with someone form another dimension.
I hope we see a Mewny villain , the Mewny version of Toffie. Mina is to silly for that, and St. Oga that is a separate story line that is not about the monsters vs Mewny plot, and I don’t Star’s parents are villains, I want a Mewny who is completely raciest against the monsters, maybe someone that is a big part of the royal family administration like the prime minister. I know the royal adviser being a villain is the biggest trope ever, I want the Mewny version of Senator Kelly.
As for “Girls Day Out”, I hope Janna involved the lack of Janna in season 2 is really bumming me out, but about Star, Ponyhead, and Brittany. Star and the two meanest girls in the series, that would be awesome. I love to see more Star and Brittany interaction, it is the female Steven and Lars, I just love it. Star is so oblivious.
Oh yeah how could i forget ponyhead and brittany. Those two plus Star Jackie Janna, boom episode done.
Hey Dylan, no offense intended, but I get the feeling you’re giving this show a hard time. It might be because in comparison, Steven Universe is giving so much plot-heavy content recently (which I can tell is your cup of tea). But we’re only quarter-way through the season and only 19 episodes into the show, and from what I remember watching the first 20 episodes of Steven Universe, it also didn’t look like it had much of a direction (which I think is the reason I dropped SU for a while). However, like Steven Universe at that stage, Svtfoe is also dropping some hints, and you can really tell that they’re building something up. I know SU is currently high up there with the greatest shows of all time, but once upon a time, it was in a similar position as Star vs the Forces of Evil.
I’m definitely being hard on it, but I think it’s warranted. Your right SU was in somewhat of a similar direction in S1, but I think the thing is it was never as directionless as Star is now. Which I guess is my main thing.. there isn’t even anything close to a framing device for the Star side right now and the tone and thematics of the show are all over the place. .. This could be what the show just is.. and that’d be fine? It’d suck because the show can obviously be a lot more, it’s had great episodes, but we’re certainly not there right now, and we’re 1/4th of the way into Season 2. Which is a little late but also the show definitely still has time to find itself this season.
Umm… framing devices aside (I don’t know what you guys are talking about when you bring this thing up), but aren’t we heading in a definite direction with them building up some major conflict with Ludo. I mean, these are just some theories, but with the contrast of Ludo between season one and season two, I can definitely see some kind of a plot twist happening where Ludo (despite being different, he’s still Ludo, and prime material as a ‘red herring’) is again knocked off his throne and replaced by Toffee, then it’s revealed that Toffee had a ‘hand’ in this all along (pun intended because his hand is part of the wand and all that speculation). I feel like you guys kinda ignored the plot-development in the episode “Wand to Wand” from hearing your podcast, saying it’s just “weird” and nothing much else.
Definitely stuff going on with Ludo right now, it’s just been slow and doesn’t involve star! I’m definitely interested to see where they go with it, especially if Star comes into play (and I really hope Toffee is back!) but for now it’s been too much of an irrelevant-to-the-main-plot slow burn I think.
I think patience will definitely pay off with this show. And hey, I think the things that are building up are interesting enough to think about even if Star isn’t around to entertain us. This show has a format of both serious and comedic (to quote the Mysterious Mr Enter: some episodes are funny, some episodes are serious, and some episode walk the line in between), and I totally dig it. I think not all shows have to be like SU where a lot of plot-relevant stuff is brought out explosion-style. Sometimes, going back to the basics is nice too. (A lot of shows I loved to watch as a kid were like this, for example Danny Phantom, the first few seasons of Pokemon, Hey Arnold and such). Star is an “americanized take on the Magical Girl genre”, and I remember a lot of classical Magical Girl shows had the slice-of-life tone throughout until close to the end, where the major plot is resolved in the last few episodes.
Actually, after thinking about it a little more, I think the writers are deliberately putting the episodes in a “sandwich format” where the plot development episodes, character episodes and comedic episodes are in between each other. So I’ll have to disagree with Dylan’s opinion that the show doesn’t know where it’s going.
