Here is a question for next week’s podcast preview, you think we will see Marty again? You think Marty will be redeemed? Marty is like Baron from Sym Bionic Titan in that we know he was a jerk in the past, but could he have changed over the years for the better. That is the same debate I have with Baron which I could either way with.

So Marty still a jerk or not? I doubt he hasn’t changed that much, as far as we know I has not been in Sour Cream’s life for a long time if not ever. Though he might not even know he had a son.

The problem I have with Dylan’s reading is the same problem I have with most Jasper stuff. There’s a conflation of wartime actions with domestic abuse that strike me as completely unfair.

This is not about sympathy for Jasper, and I can prove it: Red Skull is completely unsympathetic, but no one cries “abuse” when he punches Captain America. Someone could argue “abuse” when Red Skull tortures POWs or tries to bomb civilians, but they’d be ultimately incorrect.

There’s nothing domestic about the violence between Jasper and Lapis except by metaphor. There’s zero implication that they are or have been in a romantic/sexual/otherwise-intimate relationship together. Their fusion has less in common with an abuser browbeating their partner into sex and then getting stabbed in their sleep; that it does with a bankrobber trusting a gun to a vocally anti-cop hostage, and then getting shot in the back.

I think your definition of abuse is much too narrow and different from how I’m using the word. “Domestic abuse” needs to have “domestic” in front of it in order to clarify that it’s in the house. Jasper’s “wartime” actions can still easily be classified as abuse. So no I don’t think calling torturing a prisoner abuse is incorrect. I also take issue with her actions being in wartime.. they extended past when her mission failed and forced her into fusion out of desperation and as a grab for power.. and even everything beforehand with Lapis seems different than a POW scenario.. she was a homeworld civilian, etc

I was really hoping this podcast would just be “Jasper’s dead. RIP Jasper.”

Well you took what I said out of context a bit, first of all I was going by what Marty said on Greg on having type. If anyone deserves credit for that is Marty not me.

Anyway I think Jasper becoming a Crystal Gem? Well as much as I consider Lapis a Crystal Gem, willing to fight for Earth, but not exactly pals with the others.

After how they really surprised of how brilliant they had Peridot change sides and justify it. That blow me away, so since I have blind faith in the Crewverse, anything they want to do, they can do and it will be brilliant.

I think a great story idea of how to redeem Jasper, is her finding a small animal, who she finds annoying at first, but slowly bonds with it, and develops a soft side, and learns about how the strong can use their strength in two different ways, to protect the weak, or oppress the weak, Jasper all life has oppress those weaker than her, so now she learns the joy of protecting the weak. Besides her feelings on fusion, an often overlook aspect of her character arc, is her feelings of separate the weak and the strong, and her looking down on those weaker than her.

So I think if they wanted to develop her character, that would be a good way to go, is have to change her feelings on her contempt for the weak. And also find out their are different kinds of strengths, beside just physical strength. And by the end of the series, I want Jasper to respect someone like Pearl.

lol Jasper with a tiny animal companion would be great, and yeah it makes some amount of sense with her!
