You guys need to do a Rose / Steven powers revisited Roundtable at some point. I have a theory for you. Rose / Steven resurrection tears will only work on someone they legit cared about and had genre sadness over their death. If the enemy capture Steven and told them bring our solder back to life under duress, I don’t think it would work, than again Steven is a very compassionate person, so you never know.
Yeah it’s an interesting question, will the resurrection work for anyone.
The Breaking Point isn’t a sword though. It’s a pile bunker http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PileBunker . So yes, Blue Diamond, etc, already thought that PD was killed by a sword.
That doesn’t make sense with the way that sequence goes in the episode. I think she interprets what Steven’s saying as it being a sword.
Nah, I think if you take the scene at face value, Blue Diamond simply says that in disputing Steven’s retelling of the story. “It wasn’t the Breaking Point, it was a sword! Everyone mentions a sword! Right?”
No one would mistake the Breaking Point for a sword if they saw it, and even if the weapon was kept a secret, it would be strange if you simply accepted that someone calls a sword a “breaking point”.
The two problems with that are 1) How does she know the breaking point isn’t a sword and 2) She specifically says she doesn’t know what happened, that’s why she’s asking steven.
1) Once again, who calls a sword “breaking point”? 2) She affirms that she knows the weapon. She does not say, “Was it a sword?” She erupts, “It was a sword! You shattered her with a sword.” Her question is not the weapon, but how someone with a sword would be able to get so close to PD in the first place.
I doubt BD has a concept for sword naming… and we don’t really know what her question is. All this is speculation I think, that scene is so ambiguous.
I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure Alex is right.
When Steven says Rose probably used “the breaking point”, if Blue Diamond believed him and was crying out in anger, why would she say “It was a sword!”? She either knows what the breaking point is somehow and that it’s not a sword or she doesn’t, in which case why would she hear that name and think it was referring to a sword?
Given how the conversation plays out and the actress’s line delivery I was pretty sure that the point of that sequence was to sow doubt in Blue Diamond’s and Zircon’s mind about whether Steven did it despite the fact that he was confessing by having his statements contradict what was known (or thought to be known) about Pink Diamond’s shattering.
It definitely does make more sense with BD’s VA’s line delivery with the “she was asserting that PD was shattered with a sword” interpretation. I’ve come around on this and could see this being the intended meaning, but I still think it’s really unclear, and either interpretation has elements that make no sense. Which really pisses me off, honestly. This is different from the show obfuscating future reveals, this is something that was supposed to make sense within the episode, something that was being told directly to Steven, and no matter how we interpret it, it doesn’t fully make sense.
I see what you mean. Even if I’m right, unless Blue Diamond knew what the breaking point was (and I don’t think that’s possible) and that it wasn’t a sword, it wouldn’t make sense for her to react that way.
I’m with Alex. But I think these kinds of back and forth’s are the root of a strong fandom.
Also–of course it was at face value, Dylan! :p But props for supporting the more provocative perspective.
You guys kind of blew my mind with the possibility you mentioned about the Diamond Authority symbols!
We’ve all assumed the 3 color version was era 2 because it was introduced on Peridots green hand ship which the the Crystal Gems regarded as higher tech than what they were familiar with. And we assumed Pink diamonds death explained the lack of pink on that symbol.
But, maybe that’s going to be revealed to be an epic mislead, and we’ll find out the 4 color version is era 2 and represents the birth of Pink Diamond, not her death. That’s the only way, the Pink Dimond being the youngest makes sense to me.
Bismuth says that Rose’s sword CAN cut through a gems physical form without harming the gem, but does that necessarily mean it CAN’T shatter a gem? For example, a scalpel can cut through flesh without damaging blood vessels or organs but that doesn’t mean it can’t cut through those as well.
Definitely seems like it was implied that it can’t shatter gems at all, but this is an interesting thought..
